This is a unique, intense 5-week course (7 weeks in previous years) for researchers wishing to undertake in-depth training in the fields of protozoan parasite and parasitic worm research. The 2021 course took place in-person in Woods Hole from July 10th - August 11th, 2021. At present, 2022 dates are not available.
This two week course is based on the Biology of Parasitism (BOP) course run at Woods Hole in the US each year. This course caters for researchers from the Middle East, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The 2019 course ran from 29 July - 14 August, 2019. See the website and Twitter page for more information. At present, MeBoP 2020 and 2021 have been hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The annual "Concepts in Parasitology" course is run with the Australian Society for Parasitology at the Australian National University (ANU) Kioloa campus (about 2.5 hours east of Canberra & 3.5 hours south of Sydney). The 2019 course ran from the 25 Nov - 8 Dec, 2019. At present, no further "Concepts in Parasitology" courses are scheduled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
This Wellcome Advanced Course has taken place at either the Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton, Cambridge or at the MRC Unit in The Gambia, but this year, owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year's Africa-based Malaria Experimental Genetics course will be completely virtual. Attendants will learn the latest techniques used to genetically manipulate malaria parasites. The course runs from the 1-5th of November, 2021.
Since 2017, the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Parasitology (WCIP) in Glasgow, UK has run a Biology of Parasitism (BoP) course in an African country. Following on from MALBoP 2017 (Malawi) and KENBoP 2018 (Kenya), the "AfriBoP" course has run since 2019 and this year will be completely virtual. The online course will be one week in length and runs from the 25-29 October, 2021.
The "Science of Eradication: Malaria" leadership development course is an intensive, week-long course that provides participants with a multidisciplinary perspective on approaches to malaria elimination and eradication. The course is nomination-based and details are on the course website. Alternatively, the free online "MalariaX" course provides similar insights and runs each year. Details are also on the "Science of Eradication: Malaria" webpage. Next year's "Science of Eradication" course will take place in June 2022 at Harvard University.
